The BSc MLT (Lateral) programme is a condensed version of the regular BSc in Medical Laboratory Technology programme, designed for students who have already completed relevant qualifications or coursework in a related field. This lateral entry programme enables students to join the programme at an advanced stage and fast-track their way to a BSc degree. The curriculum of the programme covers various aspects of medical laboratory technology, including clinical chemistry, haematology, microbiology, immunology, molecular diagnostics, and other specialised laboratory techniques. Students will gain in-depth knowledge of laboratory procedures, equipment, and diagnostic testing methods.
With a BSc degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, graduates become qualified medical laboratory technologists. The demand for skilled and trained professionals in this field is expected to rise as healthcare facilities expand and modernise their diagnostic services. Based on reports, it is projected that there will be an average growth of 13% in demand for medical laboratory technologists and technicians between 2016 and 2026. After completing the programme, the graduates can find employment in various healthcare settings, such as hospitals, diagnostic laboratories, blood banks, research institutions, public health departments, and pharmaceutical companies.
