With the intention of driving policy with regard to sustainable and inclusive development in the Northeast region,Kaziranga University, in association with CSIR-NISTADS, one of the renowned policy research institutes of India, organized a three-day National Summit, with the theme, "Northeast Sustainable and Inclusive Development". The summit highlighted Northeast India as a critical hotspot for the convergence of sustainable development, leading to the overall holistic growth and progress of the region. During the course of the three-day summit, a platform was provided to expertsto discuss, deliberate and arrive at a policy roadmap for sustainable and inclusive development of Northeast. The sub themes of the summit included Energy, Environment and Economy, Women Empowerment, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Policy Intervention, Food Agronomy and Skill Development. The inaugural session of the summit was held on 26th April, 2018 where Hon'ble Minister of Education, Govt of Manipur, Shri T. Radheshyam Singhattended the summit as the Chief Guest and theFormer Special Secretary(Education), Prof. Ashok Chandra delivered the keynote address. The session saw other dignitaries such as Hon'ble Member of Parliament, Shri Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, Director NISTADS, Dr. Prashant Goswami, Vice Chancellor, Utkal University, Dr. S.M.Patnaik, Chief Managing Director, HHMM Group of Companies, Mr. Habib Mohammad Chaudhary, Hon'ble Pro Chancellor, Kaziranga University, Shri Basant Khetan, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Kaziranga University, Dr. P.K. Mishra along with delegates from across the country who came to participate in the summit. Distinguished speakers from different sectors of premier organizations from across the country attended the summit and presented their research interests and findings which will aid towards forming holistic policies for the development and sustainability of the region. Some of the eminent speakers include Dr. Tabassum Jamal, Chief Scientist, NISTADS, Dr. Uddhab Kumar Bharali, Innovator, Dr. Ashmita Chitnis, Director, Symbiosis Institute of International Business, Mr. Anal Jain, CEO Bodhi Technologies, Dr. Ravikumar Chitnis, Principal, MIT School of Management, Mr. Rupam Goswami, Chairman, Chamber of Commerce, Assam and Dr. N. Gopalkrishnan, Director, CSIR-CBRI, Roorkee. Other luminaries included Prof. Charulata Mahanta Dean SoE, Tezpur University, Dr. S. Venugopal, Director, NIT Nagaland, Dr. A.K. Barooah, Director, Tea Research Association, Toklai Tea Research Institute and Mr. Vivek Pandit, Head, Retail Business IL & FS Skill. A panel discussion was held at the end of the summit with an aim to summarize the discussions during the summit and to arrive at suggestions for specific and actionable policy interventions with regard to sustainable and inclusive development in North-East India. In the specific context of Northeast India the panel highlighted the importance of skill development, renewable energy, preservation of biodiversity and inclusive development policies with special attention to resolving gender disparities. This summit brought together a plethora of intellectual minds from diverse academic as well as non-academic niches from all over India. The multi-disciplinary deliberations along with inputs from dignitaries contributing in the practical arena brought about a number of novel and significant observations during the course of the summit. Kaziranga University is committed to contribute towards the society by organizing more such events along with tangible efforts with the intention to create immediate and positive changes in the region.
