Awareness programme on Prevention & Management of COVID-19

The School of Social Sciences, Assam Kaziranga University as a part of its outreach activity conducted a day long awareness programme on Prevention & Management of COVID-19 cum COVID Vaccination drive in collaboration with the Solmara Block PHC and Puranimati PHC of Jorhat district of Assam. The event was held on 29th April,2022 in the premises of Charingia High School of Jorhat district.

The students and teachers of the Charingia high school, parents and villagers attended the awareness programme where the experts of the health department conducted a session on importance of health and hygiene for the students and highlighted the role of parents in ensuring this. After the awareness programme a health checkup camp was also organized in which some routine tests were held like Hemoglobin test, blood pressure checkup etc. for the participants. Along with this activity a vaccination drive was also held for the villagers in which many people came for their 2nd dose of COVID vaccine and few came for the booster vaccine.

There were around 230 participants who attended the event and helped the organizers to conduct it successfully. In the awareness programme the Headmaster of the Charingia high school also delivered a talk on prevention of COVID-19. A renowned social worker of the locality Ms. Ranju Pujari Dutta delivered a talk on importance of healthy lifestyle and role of parents in the practice of the same.

The MSW students of Assam Kaziranga University under the guidance of Mr Aditya Bhatta, Assistant Professor, School of Social Sciences, took the initiative to organize this programme. Ms. Isandondor L. Lyngkhoi, a student of MSW II Semester of the university delivered a talk on how to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and measures to be taken to keep themselves safe.

There was also an awareness building session by Mr. Rajib Saikia, the Block programme Coordinator, where he highlighted some of the health care programmes and schemes of Government of Assam to make the public aware about those services and requested them to get the  maximum benefit of those services whenever any such need arises. Besides, Mr. Saikia also highlighted the role played by a social worker to make such services accessible to the people. His session was quite helpful for  the social work students of the university to understand their role as a future social worker in the field of health care. In his talk he has specifically highlighted the School Health Programme initiated by the health department of Govt. of Assam and requested the school authorities along with the community people for their active participation in this programme. The event concluded with a vote of thanks given by Mr. Bitupan Hazarika, Headmaster of Charingia High School, Jorhat.
