Online Panel Discussion titled Generation Restoration Reimagining Tourism to Restore our Environment

The Community Club in association with the School of Social Sciences celebrated World Environment Day on 5th June 2021 by hosting an Online Panel Discussion titled "Generation Restoration: Reimagining Tourism to Restore our Environment."

The Online Panel Discussion was moderated by Mr. Anirban Saikia, former Manager - International Relations, the Assam Kaziranga University who introduced the panelists. The panelists were:

1) Mr. Anant Gupta, Founder – Infinite Detours.
Infinite Detours is a trekking startup based out of social media. The startup has completed 30+ treks in India and Bhutan and serves 300+ clients from India, USA, France, Israel, Kuwait, Canada etc. The vision of the startup is to be a global industry leader promoting "sustainable and responsible trekking".

2) Ms. Stella James - Independent Researcher.
Ms. James is an alumna of the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata. She has worked with local communities to facilitate strengthening of their decision-making on environmental governance. She has previously worked to facilitate community dialogues with adivasi communities in Odisha around mining and forest degradation with Natural Justice, and with fishworkers in Lakshadweep on changing fisheries and climate change with Nature Conservation Foundation.

The discussion began with the panelists sharing their experiences as conservationists working in the tourism sphere. Questions were posed on how tourism could be utilised to restore our ecosystems and ecology. A large portion of the discussion also focussed on methods of creating awareness and empowering local communities to protect their immediate surroundings.

The online panel discussion was quite interesting and a successful one as it saw over 100 participants engaged in the discussion.
