Structural Model Design Competition in association with Institution of Engineers (India) Students Chapter

The Civil Engineering Department of the Assam Kaziranga University's School of Engineering and Technology organised a Structural Model Design Competition for third and final year students in collaboration with the Institution of Engineers (INDIA) Students' Chapter. The event took place on February 26th, starting at 10:00 a.m. The goal of this competition was to showcase new design concepts that were effective, long-lasting, and fascinating. Students presented their skills by making a variety of 3D models, projects, collages, and paper art, among other things.

Prof. (Dr.) P. G. Ramesh, Dean, School of Engineering and Technology, The Assam Kaziranga University, began the competition with a welcome remark. First and foremost, he welcomed Chief Guest Shri. Tridip Jyoti Bhuyan, Additional Chief Engineer (i/c), Irrigation Department, Government of Assam, as well as all the participants and faculty members of the Assam Kaziranga University's School of Engineering and Technology. He spoke about the importance of civil engineers in his address.

Shri. Tridip Jyoti Bhuyan is currently employed at the Government of Assam's Irrigation Department as an Additional Chief Engineer (i/c). He studied civil engineering at Assam Engineering College and has worked in the sectors of irrigation and water resources for over thirty years. He reviewed the issues surrounding the Brahmaputra River and its tributaries and proposed a few remedies, including proper water usage for irrigation and other reasons, as well as the construction of proper water conveyance infrastructure with minimal losses He also urged kids to pursue education in this field because of the numerous chances it provides. It is possible to dredge the Brahmaputra River. Remote sensing is being used to measure the Brahmaputra's discharge.

A prize distribution ceremony was held, and first prize went to group 2 (Harpreet Singh Shanglow Pangloi, Bravishi Bharadwaj Koubral Chongtham Naorem Shomikanta Singh), and their model was tuned mass dampers. Group 6 (Lhakpa Tsering, K Nibokali Shohe, Avino Chüsi, Imtisenla Imchen, Lydia, L Achumi, Rongsenrenla Jamir) received the second honour, with the "KU campus serving as the sustainable building" model. Group 1(MD Fahim Ali, Jahid Akram, HussainChimar, Nyokir, Abhishek Puri, K Wangnon K) took third place with their concept, which was named "Rooftop rainwater collecting for hostel building and faculty housing at Assam Kaziranga University."

The session ended with a vote of thanks delivered by the Head of the Department, Civil Engineering Dr. Shwetambara Verma.
