Cancer is a common cause of death worldwide, accounting for nearly 10 million deaths in 2020. Approximately 50% of cancers are preventable with proper identification of risk factors and implementation of existing evidence-based prevention strategies. The cancer burden can also be reduced through early cancer detection and appropriate treatment and care of patients who develop cancer.

Hence, "The World Cancer Day" is celebrated on the 4th of February every year to increase awareness about various types of Cancers and the risk factors. On 04.02.2022, the School of Health Sciences celebrated World Cancer Day by organizing an Online Webinar, Photography, and Video making Competitions at The Assam Kaziranga University. Ms. Khushboo Sinha, CSIR-Senior Research Fellow, Cancer Biology Division, CSIR-Central Drug Research Institute, and Dr. Suryakanta Swain participated as Key Speakers in the Online Webinar on the occasion of "World Cancer Day," One hundred fifty-eight students attended the Online Webinar and participated in Photography and Videomaking Competition. Ms. Ibasiewdor Mawlein and Ms. Nekita Sharma were the Coordinators and Dr. Sailendra Kumar Mahanta and Dr. Vishal Das acted as The moderators for the event.
