University Peace Club launched on the occasion of UN International Day of Peace

Assam Kaziranga University celebrated the United Nations International Day of Peace on the theme of "Recovering Better for a Sustainable and Equitable World" associated with the Universal Peace Federation, Youth and Students for Peace- India (YSP-India) and KU Community Club on 21st September 2021. The university also launched the University Peace Club (UPC) in association with the organizations on the same day.

The entire event was conducted virtually where dignitaries from different fields, including academics, political leaders, and students of various universities like Royal Global University and Assam Kaziranga University, joined the celebration and made it a great success. 

Among the notable speakers and patrons of the Youth Peace Club who had graced the occasion with their virtual presence were; Honourable Mr Bhubaneshwar Kalita(Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha and the Chairman of International Association of Academicians for Peace (IAPP)- South Asia), Dr PK Mishra (Vice-chancellor, Assam Kaziranga University). Mr Krishna Adhikari (Secretary-General of UPF India), Dr S P Singh (Vice-Chancellor, Royal Global University and Vice Chairman IAYSP- India), Dr Archana Bhattacharya (retired Associate Prof. and HOD, Kakojan College, Jorhat), Chief Adviser of Youth Peace Club, Mr Birendra Shrestha, (Vice President of International Association of Youth and Students for Peace (IAYSP) and National Director YPC).  

In his enlightening speech, the honourable vice-chancellor of Assam Kaziranga University, Dr PK Mishra, mentioned that the launch of the University Peace Club in Assam Kaziranga University would help their students to become global citizens by engaging themselves in various educational, leadership and peace projects conducted by YPS-India in partnership with UPF, and contribute to the worldwide peace-building process at large. He expressed his gratitude to UPF and YPS-India for choosing Assam Kaziranga to emphasize this noble cause.  

In her speech, Dr Archana Bhattacharya, Chief Adviser, YPC, emphasized the importance of peace in life and how to achieve it; Mr Krishna Adhikari, Secretary-General of UPF India, spoke about the significance of celebrating the United Nations International Day of Peace and also explained the concept of University Peace Club and the activities conducted through UPC.

In his speech, Mr Bhubaneshwar Kalita, an honourable member of Rajya Sabha, appreciated the theme chosen for celebrating International Day of Peace and emphasized that we are gradually recovering from the damages created by the Covid-19 pandemic and moving towards an equitable world. 

 Dr S P Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Royal Global University, emphasized sustainability's importance while discussing peace concerning the environment. 

The event ended with the announcement of the UPC- Kaziranga University Committee consisting of student volunteers and faculty coordinators. A total of 80 plus participants joined the event, making it a successful one. Besides, the support and cooperation received from Mr Krishna Adhikari, Secretary-General UPF-India; Mr Aditya Bhatta and Mr Debanuj Khound – mentors  Community Club and Assistant professors Assam Kaziranga University,  Dr Saurabhi Sarmah, Assistant Professor, Assam Kaziranga University and the student volunteers of KU  was indeed overwhelming.
