Webinar On Social Work Education and Profession @ 2030

The School of Social Sciences, The Assam Kaziranga University, Jorhat organized a one-day National Webinar on "Social Work Education and Profession @ 2030" in collaboration with the National Association of the Professional Social Workers in India (NAPSWI), dated 20th August 2022, on the occasion of 3rd National Social Work Week 2022.

The resource person Prof Pratibha J Mishra, Professor and HoD, Department of Social Work, Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya (Central University), Bilaspur, Chhatisgarh, India, also a senior member of the NAPSWI discussed critically on the theme "Social Work Education and Profession @ 2030". She discussed about the growth trajectory of Social Work from 'Charity Based' to 'Right Based', and at present 'Sustainable Development.' It has been changed by time and needs of the human society. She highlighted some of the important points like- (1) Professional Ethics in Social Work, (2) Proper Departments in Indian Universities with Qualified Social Work Professionals, (3) Importance of Field Work in the Curriculum and practice of the Social Work Profession, (4) Proper Documentations for each and every Professional Social Work Practice and activities, and (5) Practice of Social Work Profession in the community especially addressing on Mental health as a growing concern at present time. Her discussions were very much interesting and relevant to the time for the young professional Social Workers. A healthy and fruitful discussion was held on the topic placed by the speaker.

The participants of the webinar were mainly Social Work professionals and students of MSW and BSW from different Colleges and Universities from The Assam Kaziranga University, Jorhat, Assam; Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya (Central University), Bilaspur, Chhatisgarh; Uktal University, and Sambalpur University, Odisha.

This programme has been coordinated by Dr Golak B Patra, Associate Professor and Associate Dean, SSS, The Assam Kaziranga University, Jorhat, and Dr Bilash Chandra Montry, Academic Consultant, Odisha State Open University, Sambalpur, Odisha. The programme has been moderated by Dr Golak B Patra. At the end, Ms Shrestha Bhattacharjee, a student of MSW and JSW fellow from The Assam Kaziranga University proposed the vote of thanks and concluded the programme.
