The Assam Kaziranga University organized its 8th convocation ceremony for the Graduating Batch of 2022

One of the leading University of the North East India, The Assam Kaziranga University organized its 8th convocation ceremony on 12th of May 2023. The ceremony was conducted for a total of 787 students including PhDs of 2022 batch. The convocation ceremony signified a significant landmark in the academic journey of the University.

The convocation ceremony was hosted in the University campus at Koraikhowa, Jorhat. The convocation ceremony was inaugurated by Shri Basant Khetan, Pro-Chancellor of the University. The chief guest for the event, Shri Temjen Imna Along, Honourable Minister of Higher and Technical Education & Tourism, Government of Nagaland, congratulated the graduating students and urged them to be humble, innovative and generous. Asking the students to be knowledgeable, the honourable minister shared his insights in to the role of education and emphasized on its potential to bring constructive changes in the society. While praising the university management, the honourable minister heaved praises on the university, its infrastructure, and its contribution in the field of higher education in the north eastern region. He also assured necessary assistance and guidance to the university in carrying forward the cause of quality higher education in days to come.

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Dr P K Mishra congratulated the students of the graduating batches. Addressing in the ceremony, Dr Mishra emphasised on the role of the The Assam Kaziranga University in promoting quality higher education in the region. Talking about the various achievements made by the university, the Vice Chancellor reiterated upon the need of building academic rigour in changing the landscape of the higher education in the region.  Focussing on the need to strengthen skill development and research in bringing development to the North-eastern region, Dr Mishra emphasised on the importance of empowering the youth with state of the art facility in becoming better citizens and contributing to the growth and development of the whole region in particular and the nation in general. Dr Mishra reiterated the commitment made by the University in shaping the future of the region with quality and value based higher education.

The University conferred Honorary Doctorate upon two distinguished personalities. The first Honorary Doctorate was presented to Dr. Raghunath Anant Mashelkar, former Director General-CSIR and former President, National Science Academy. The honorary Doctorate was presented for his contribution towards the field of science and innovation. Dr. Mashelkar has immense contributions as a scientist, technologist, and an innovator and have left an indelible mark on the development and progress of our nation. In his encouraging speech, Dr. Mashelkar emphasised upon the importance of knowledge and its potential in creating a better nation. Urging the students to work hard and build perseverance, Dr. Mashelkar weighs upon the need to use knowledge and education in changing the fate of the nation.  

The second Honorary Doctorate was presented to Dr. Rajendra Singh, commonly referred to as the Water Man of India. Dr Singh was conferred with the Honorary Doctorate for his contribution towards the field of water conservation and environmental sustainability. Dr Singh has made immense contributions in the field of water conservation and environmentalism. In his speech, Dr Singh has urged the students to use knowledge for the protection and conservation of nature. Applauding the students on their graduating day, he reiterated the need for creating a sustainable society by bringing positive changes through sustainable and environmentally safe practices.  

Other distinguished personalities present in the convocation ceremony were – Ms. Rainy Khetan, Director, Kaziranga University and Dr A. Nshonga, Director of Higher Education, Nagaland. 

The Assam Kaziranga University takes immense pride in conferring degrees to its students, and the 8th Convocation Ceremony bears witness to it. The University strongly believes that the foundation of a strong Nation lies on the abled shoulders of its skilled young men and women and the University has always worked for providing an industry-aligned curriculum to the students of North East by creating skilled young professional with strong values and character. As the University sends off its students out in to the world, it wishes its students to shine bright and achieve best in all their endeavours.
