Placement Readiness and Interview Preparation for Third-Year Students

Date: 4th February, 2026
Time: 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM
Venue: SET Seminar Hall

Introduction

In today’s dynamic professional environment, academic qualifications alone are insufficient for career success. An interactive session titled “Placement Readiness and Career Preparation”, led by Prof. Bibhash Basumatary, was organized to familiarize students with evolving industry expectations and the need for early, focused preparation. The session highlighted growth opportunities and key differences between government and private sector career paths, emphasizing performance, adaptability, and continuous learning.

The seminar also stressed the importance of developing core skills such as aptitude, communication skills, and problem-solving abilities, along with a growth-oriented mindset. Students were encouraged to prepare consistently, improve incrementally, and take proactive steps toward becoming industry-ready professionals.

Career Perspective: Private vs Government Sector

Prof. Bibhash Basumatary highlighted that careers in the private sector, especially in multinational companies, offer greater exposure, faster growth, and better mobility. In contrast, government jobs provide stability but have limited income growth and require lengthy preparation.

Salary Comparison and Growth Potential

Through real-world examples, it was explained that government jobs offer fixed salaries, whereas the private sector rewards performance and skills without upper limits. Students were encouraged to evaluate long-term career growth and the opportunity cost of delayed entry into the workforce.

Importance of Early Preparation

Students were advised to begin preparation at an early stage rather than waiting until the final year. The speaker emphasized that lost time cannot be recovered and that early career efforts yield significant long-term benefits.

Daily Focused Practice

Students were recommended to dedicate two hours daily:

  • One hour for aptitude practice (TCS Ninja–level questions)
  • One hour for attitude, reasoning, and communication skills

Consistency and discipline were highlighted as essential for success.

Communication and Critical Thinking

Strong emphasis was placed on communication skills, analytical thinking, root cause analysis, and evaluation abilities. Tools such as the 5W–1H approach, Input–Process–Output analysis, and regular newspaper reading were recommended to improve comprehension and decision-making skills.

Internship and Placement Opportunities

Students were informed about upcoming industry-driven internship programs, hackathon-based recruitment processes, and internship opportunities leading to Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs). They were encouraged to actively participate and leverage institutional support.
