Visit to State Institute of Panchayat and Rural Development

On 26th August a group of fresh students, newly enrolled batch of school of Social Sciences had the privilege of visiting the SIPRD along with Miss. Adipriya Boruah and Dr. Ramjit Kumar. The State Institute of Panchayat and Rural Development is a government institution committed to training and research activities in rural areas, with a focus in fostering development. The purpose of this visit was to gain a deeper understanding of the Panchayati Raj System, the significance of rural development, and key government programs aimed at fostering development, with a special focus on Assam.

Agenda and Learning Sessions

  • Panchayati Raj System

The visit commenced with an insightful session on the Panchayati Raj System by the Principal of SIPRD, highlighting critical role in the growth and development of nations, the functioning of Panchayats and on their operations within the state of Assam. Topics covered included the formation of Gaon Panchayats and the functions of the three essential bodies: the legislature, executive and judiciary.

  • Rural Development Programs

The next session was conducted by Mr. Chandan Sarma, faculty, who provided comprehensive information about various government programs and schemes. He elucidated on the benefits, eligibility criteria, application procedures and launch dates of significant initiatives such as MGNREGA, PMAY and AMRIT SAROVAR. The session equipped us with practical knowledge on how citizens can avail themselves of these programs to enhance their socio-economic well-being.

Sustainable Development Goals

On final session, led by guest lecturer Mr. Bichitra Kr. Das focused on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Provided insights into the global objectives set by the United Nations to address critical challenges such as poverty, education, and healthcare and infrastructure development. Mr. Das emphasized the importance of aligning efforts with the SDGs for a sustainable and equitable future.  

Conclusion

The State Institute of Panchayat and Rural Development was an enlightening experience, with valuable insights into the intricacies of the Panchayati Raj System, the significance of rural development, and the pursuit of Sustainable Development Goals. Their dedication to equipping individuals and communities with the knowledge and resources needed to thrive in the rural settings is commendable.
