Road Safety Awareness Program in Jorhat conducted by Assam Kaziranga University in collaboration DTO Office Jorhat.

The School of Social Sciences, Assam Kaziranga University, in collaboration with the District Transport Office (DTO), Jorhat, and the Women Cell of the University, successfully conducted a Road Safety Awareness Program today at Baruah Chariali, near Nehru Park, Jorhat.

The program started from 10:00am onwards and received enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, DTO officials, and local residents of in and around Jorhat. It was organized in response to growing concerns about road accidents and aimed to raise public awareness road safety.

The program included a powerful street play, performed by students of the School of Social Sciences, highlighting the common causes of road accidents. This was followed by placard displays carrying impactful road safety messages, an engaging road safety quiz to both educate and test the public’s knowledge, and open interactions with the general public focusing on traffic discipline and pedestrian safety.

The program was well received by the community and appreciated by passers-by, officials, and local media for its relevance and impact. Notable attendees included Mr. Dhananjay Saikia, DTO, Jorhat; Dr. Sumita Sarkar, Dean, School of Social Sciences; and Prof. Bandana Thakur, Associate Dean, School of Social Sciences, along with faculty members.

The event was coordinated by Dr. Saurabhi Sarmah, Associate Professor, School of Social Sciences, and Chairperson of the Women Cell at Kaziranga University. When asked about the initiative, Dr. Sarmah said: “This program was a reflection of our commitment to community engagement and social responsibility. We are proud to have brought attention to such a vital issue and hope to see a positive shift in road behaviour as a result.”
